"My favorite pictureof all my works" my niece Julia, Abril 1867&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Todos nós temos “direito” a eleger uma fotografia como ”a fotografia”, mesmo aqueles que estão afastados do conhecimento da história e dos movimentos onde os trabalhos fotográficos se “encaixam” ou nós os encaixamos.&lt;br /&gt;A fotografia ultrapassa os meios técnicos usados e mesmo o lado estético. The introduction said that the photographer, a freelancer based in Bedford, England, "creates his images with long exposures but without digital manipulation."A reader, however, discovered on close examination that one of the pictures was digitally altered, apparently for aesthetic reasons. Editors later confronted the photographer and determined that most of the images did not wholly reflect the reality they purported to show. Ao afirmar em vários sítios que as suas imagens não são manipuladas (o que ao serem, não altera em nada a qualidade das mesmas) tem agora “vergonha” de aceitar esta falsidade sob pela de que a “qualidade” das suas imagens seja atingida. É multíplice. É assertivo. E surpreendente. Como é surpreendente e acertada a escolha feita pelo madrileno Alejandre Castellote para uma exposição que não quer ser retrospectiva - quer fazer uma pausa para respirar depois de mais de 20 anos de fotografia. Chama-se Húmus, como que a pôr os pés descalços na terra para sentir a textura, o corpo e a substância da obra realizada. São quase 70 imagens que abarcam o período entre 1988 e 2009.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;em&gt;In&lt;/em&gt; ArtePhotographica&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; "O fio condutor da mostra explora de forma fragmentada alguns dos estratos mais íntimos do imaginário do ser humano. &lt;span style="font-size:78%;"&gt;Dorothea Lange, &lt;em&gt;Migrant Mother&lt;/em&gt;, 1936&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt; Dorothea Lange decidiu ser fotógrafa com 18 anos de idade.&lt;br /&gt;Começou a sua carreira como ajudante de fotógrafa entre 1912 e 1918 e entrou para a Universidade da Columbia onde estudou fotografia entre 1917 e 1919 sob a orientação de C. H. White. Aos 24 anos de idade abre o seu próprio estúdio de fotografia.&lt;br /&gt;Em 1929, marcada pela crise que assolava os Estados Unidos da América, consagra todo o seu trabalho à reportagem social. Fotografa os grevistas e as manifestações dos trabalhadores privilegiando sempre o lado humano do acontecimento.&lt;br /&gt;A partir de 1935 integra o grupo de fotógrafos (Bem Shan, Walker Evans, Carl Mydans, Arthur Rothstein, Russell Lee e Jack Delano), coordenados por Roy Stryker, para trabalhar na &lt;em&gt;Farm Security Admistration&lt;/em&gt;, organismo do governo americano que cuidava dos assuntos relativos à crise agrícola americana dos anos 30 e que usava a fotografia como meio documental. I think all these levels operate through work at the same time so I don’t feel like I need to limit what I’m doing, that I can hold all these things."&lt;/em&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Stephen Shore&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Stephen Shore&lt;/strong&gt; was born on October 8, 1947 in New York City. He began photographing at age eight, and at fourteen sold three prints to Edward Steichen (then director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York). Shore left a Manhattan prep school during twelfth grade, and spent 1965 through 1969 documenting Andy Warhol’s factory. In 1971 the Metropolitan Museum of Art exhibited Shore’s work in the institution’s first-ever single artist show by a living photographer. In 1976 the Museum of Modern Art in New York exhibited his color work. Shore is the recipient of a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Fellowship (1975) and two National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships (1974 and 1979). The George Eastman House mounted his first retrospective, Stephen Shore: Photographs 1973-1993, in 1996. His work is included in such collections as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Museum of Fine Art, Houston; Seattle Art Museum, Washington; and Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut. This is a series of photographs about a certain atmosphere that Bert knew from his childhood. The work is made in Holland, France, Portugal, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Italy, Great Britain and Japan and will find its continuation around the world. Here Bert uses available light to photograph people in their kitchen, livingroom or bedroom. It is a search for a way of living that has been around for centuries and that is disappearing from society fast, due to architectual changes but also because of new regulations in the EU and other parts of the world.The light that is being used is the same that was used by the great Dutch masters like Vermeer and Pieter de Hoogh in their paintings and the photographs of Bert have been related to the works these painters ever since.&lt;br /&gt;This series was the international break-through for Bert and his first show in New York was in september 2000.&lt;br /&gt;In the spring of 2007 a book about the project will be published by Aperture in New York. T. Kearney, Portugal.Na continuidade desta política de actualização dos acervos, foram incorporadas na colecção, através de aquisições e doações, um conjunto de obras fotográficas representativas das dinâmicas da fotografia portuguesa ao longo da década de 50, momento particularmente interessante e mal estudado da sua história.A fotografia portuguesa, neste período, reflecte de forma ímpar muitas das dissonâncias e conflitos estéticos então vividos, que só podem ser lidos e entendidos em articulação e cruzamento permanente com todas as outras áreas da vida cultural, social e política neste período.A “batalha de sombras” que estas imagem evocam, é a repercussão duma sociedade cada vez mais polarizada entre a perpetuação duma ilusão e o desengano, produzindo imagens ensombradas por uma cultura fotográfica e artística pouco debatida, ignorando-se mutuamente, e em que cada imagem é a expressão dum dilema entre a “arte pela arte” e as rupturas (im)possíveis em prol duma arte de dimensão e participação social e humanista.Mais do que uma batalha entre tradição e inovação assistimos a uma ambivalência entre representação e apresentação, técnica e inspiração, alta e baixa cultura, estética e ética, arte e ideologia. Na década de 50, todas as dissonâncias e incoerências são o reflexo duma relação interrogativa, se bem que muitas vezes inconsciente, do objecto fotográfico face aos diversos entendimentos estéticos da cultura portuguesa, assim como da sua história.Os autores e obras aqui apresentadas percorrem aspectos de grande diversidade, desde a fotografia amadora associativa e o meio salonista a ela associado, abordando a produção de autores inéditos, os amadores “anti-salonistas”, a fotografia no contexto dos movimentos neo-realista e surrealista, assim como a vocação ilustrativa e de inventário do objecto fotográfico. A apresentação desta colecção de fotografia do MNAC-MC, assenta numa interrogação crítica de toda esta diversidade, permitindo a constatação de ritmos múltiplos na sua articulação, que levantam Mas é da lei da guerra e da paz que os ocupantes deixem atrás de si rastos da cultura própria e outras alterações mais gratuitas do futuro. No país, que levaria o seu exército com Wellington a atravessar os Pirinéus, uma outra revolução de advogados estava já em marcha.&lt;br /&gt;Por isso mesmo, este conjunto de exposições não comemora apenas as misérias e as vitórias locais do império napoleónico mas, acima de tudo, os efeitos culturais de sucessivos reconhecimentos.&lt;br /&gt;A Península, respondendo com uma violência inesperada ao exército jacobino, ganhava então o seu cunho de exotismo e barbárie, - a temeridade dos bandoleiros fará eco nos libretos de Ópera, no romance oitocentista e na representação dos seus habitantes. A meados do século XIX, a pátria do Empecinado e do general Silveira era visitada pelas missões fotográficas com o mesmo olhar de descoberta que levava os fotógrafos a Marrocos ou ao Egipto.&lt;br /&gt;Cabo da Europa a que o mar imenso fizera esquecer, são por vezes esses olhares franceses que fazem o país descobrir-se a si mesmo. E é esse olhar do outro que nos confronta ou que dele dá notícia, que aqui se mostra. Inclui grandes fotógrafos franceses, pretéritos ou nossos contemporâneos, todos eles incluídos na Colecção Nacional de Fotografia. Não vejo os objectos que centram estas imagens como objectos, mas como eventos. À primeira vista pode dizer-se que também este trabalho se relaciona com o impacto do Modernismo sobre o ambiente, mas espero que vá muito além disso. Interessa-me o teatro e a performance – embora não no sentido tradicional da palavra. O que quero é registar a performance do mundo como um de processos e factos e a única forma de o conseguir é desacelerando o tempo.
